can energy storage devices like flywheels capture/store energy from another machines ie) a treadmill?
I have only started to research this and I don’t know anything about flywheels, but I was thinking about alternative ways to make/use energy. I thought about my gym and how hard people work on the machines. Can’t that energy be captured in some way? Maybe a flywheel? And if so how long would the energy stay before dissipating? I dunno. I’d appreciate some feedback

Yes. Although a flywheel will eventually slow down due to friction.
Try looking up bionx – they make an electric motor / generator kit for bicycles, in Montreal.
When you pedal, apply the brakes, or coast downhill, you can recharge the battery, depending on how it’s set.
It’s called regenerative braking.
