ALTERNATIVE ENERGY HYDROGEN PROS
Your choice of alternative energy?

Considering all pros and cons (availablility, price, efficiency, etc), what is YOUR choice of alternative energy source for the future? Why?

(i.e. Solar, Wind, Hydrogen/fuel cell, Tidal, Geothermal, etc)

I am doing a poll for a project, so I would like any/every input! :) Thanks
oh, I forgot to mention the Big Three:
Nuclear, Biomass, and Hydroelectric

Right now – wind. In the near future – solar.

Solar can be used pretty much anywhere (with varying efficiency), will soon be easily integrated into roofs and buildings, and is the *most* renewable energy source. Unfortunately, it’s fairly expensive right now.

Wind is more economical right now, but is a little more unpredictable than solar and some people find it ugly and noisy.

Hydrogen is NOT an alternative energy source. Hydrogen does not occur alone on Earth and must be produced by separating it from other materials using energy. At best, hydrogen is a battery.

All other alternative energies are too limited in their geographic availability to be of much use globally.

EDIT: I’m also not a fan of hydro as it requires the destruction of huge swaths of land and changes stream ecology. Also, it’s starting to look like hydro is not actually that clean. Some preliminary research is showing that hydro may result in the release of huge amounts of CO2, mercury and other toxic substances as it causes the quick rotting of what used to be forest and concentrates any toxic substance that was in them.

Tomorrow’s Energy: Hydrogen, Fuel Cells, and the Prospects for a Cleaner Planet

$3.67

The word hydrogen conjures images of devastating bombs and burning zeppelins (the Hindenburg) for most of us, but it inspires visionaries like Peter Hoffmann to picture clear skies and safer roads. Hoffmann’s book Tomorrow’s Energy traces the history of the volatile gas and explores options for its use as fuel. Though the author can’t avoid using some technical language, his writing should still a…
