If you have a CFA, does where you got your undergrad at matter?
I am about to take the CFA level 1 exam in June and am wondering if it matters where I got my undergrad at. I got my bachelor of science degree in finance at Southeastern Louisiana University, a small third tier school. I am wondering if I should get my MBA from a top 20 program after I finish level 2 of the CFA. I have a really good GPA (3.5/4.0). I think with a few months I could score high enough to get into a good MBA program. My ideal job is to be an equities analyst covering alternative energy companies, which is a an area that really peaks my interest. Right now I am working as a credit analyst at a small commercial bank >1 billion assets though. I don’t want where I got my undergrad from to hinder my opportunities. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
I am about to sit for CFA Level II…I made the mistake of going to a tier 2 school for my MBA right after undergrad and regret it very much. Even with your CFA, going to a top 10 or 20 MBA program is really what sets you apart from everyone else…especially now that so many people are beginning to take the CFA.
My advice to you would definitely be to go to a top tier school. You will have many more opportunities than if you didn’t.
Hope this helps.
