Does anyone know the Law that states that you never get more energy out than you put in?

i think its called the zero-sum rule or law or something, but i cant find anything on wikipedia or google about it, so i thought i’d ask. for my policy debate tournaments, the resolution being alternative energy incentives in the US, my partner and i run an Ocean Thermal Energy Converter. they run in defiance to (insert name of law im asking about). anyway, i forgot what the law was called, and its very important that i know. for every 7 units of energy they consume, they produce 10, which is awesome.

I come again after reading your question in full.The case you are talking about has nothing to do with law of Energy Conservation . As in refregeration cycles you are concerned with Transfering heat energy from one location to another and you use energy either mechanical or electrical to do that. In refregeration you use 1kW-h of electrical energy to transfer 7 to 8kW-h of heat .The1kW-h input energy is merely for driving the motor of the compressor. I hope that this address your question.
