How green are domestic waste disposal systems?
We have bought a house which has a waste disposal system installed in the sink. We use it for vegetable peelings and food left over on plates etc.
Is this a “green” way of disposing of vegetable material? My garden is too small for a composter, and in any case I’m not sure I could find the time or energy to deal with one. So the question is is a waste disposal system better than putting the rubbish into bags and letting the council take it away?
How will you wrap your food trash? In plastic bags? If so, there will be very little degrading of the food.
If you put it in plastic and it is buried under tons of other debris in a landfill, it will take decades longer to degrade.
By using the WDS in your sink, you break it down and send it to your waste treatment plant (or septic tank) where bacteria will feed on it and break it down to CO2.
