Which graduate schools would you recommend me for Chemical Eng. MS/PhD with research emphasis on catalysis?
I graduated last May with a BS in chemical engineering (with a 3.42 GPA) from a university in the US ranked between 30 and 40 according to US News. I couldn’t find a job in the US because of my visa status and so have decided to go back to school for my MS/PhD. I am taking the GRE later this month and expect to get at least 1200. My research focus will be catalysis, reaction engineering or energy. I have a internship experience with a fortune 500 company (which doesn’t sponsor me green card/visa) and some prior good research experience in college. Which schools do you believe could I get in and which you will recommend given my research interest and credentials? I don’t have any other funding sources, so I need to get full financial aid from school. Thanks a lot…
You can try UC Berkeley, they have professors that focus on Catalysis.
As a graduate student you will either Teach or do reseach while you work on your PhD so you will get paid that way. The department/prof will pay part of your tuition, so you really don’t need to worry about that as a PhD student.
The best thing to do to find schools is look up faculty at schools you like and find out if there are professors there that do what you are interested in.
I don’t want to spend the time to look up everyone, but its not hard. If you are a good student you should have no problem finding this stuff out. In my quick search, it turned up U. Penn, Yale, and a host of others that have Chem E with Catalysis.
