Going Green Tips?
My mom and I want to go green because fuel prices are too high for us to heat our home. We’ve been learning about renewable energies in my science class, and the two that I think my mom and I should try are Geothermal (pipes under home) and Solar Power/Heating. Another option we’ve been thinking about is a pellet stove. We live in maine, so this is a viable option. I would like to know how much this might cost for solar/pellet stove/geothermal installation, and what might be best. Also, I would like to know whether or not it WOULD be possible for us to install geothermal in our home, or if it would cost too much. Any links to sites with more info would be great, but not too many geothermal sites because I did a basic project on it and know most of them.
Finally, I would like to know if anyone knows any energy incentives fromt he government, or from the state of maine like net metering and subsidies. Thanks all…..
Wow, Geothermal. Quite ambitious and I expect expensive.
Solar isn’t cheap, either.
If you replace your AC with one that has a SEER rating of 14+, there is a tax credit. FYI Puron (R-410a) is much more efficient than R-22 or Freon.
Have you updated your insulation? What about your windows, as there is a lot of heat loss there. We ditched some of our mini blinds and replaced them with double honeycomb cloth shades. Coupled with heavier curtians, we have noticed a significant reduction in heat gain/loss.
You might also replace the weatherstipping at the doors and windows.
