When Christine Todd Whitman calls nuclear power clean and safe, do you believe it?
Clean and safe is the message from CASEnergy, a PR firm.
The Clean and Safe Energy Coaltion (CASEnergy) is funded by a nuclear power industry group and headed by Christine Todd Whitman, who as the EPA director under GW Bush. She had declared that the EPA believed the air around the 9/11 site to be safe after the disaster. Later, she sought court protection from liability but the courts refused. Many relief workers are finally receiving compensation for the health problems associated with the air in NYC after the disaster.
Does the nuclear power industry think the press is mindless? When will they wake up? Do you trust Christine about nuclear power?
I don’t know who Christine is, but no, I don’t believe her.
Nuclear energy is a technology fraught with dangers. These are well documented – terrorism, accidents, use of uranium and of the technology in weapons manufacture, etc.
But the one that really stands out for me is the disposal of the spent fuel – it’s deadly for 750,000 years!!!!
What kind of legacy is that?
Leave it in the ground.
