Why do people believe so fiercely that democracy is somehow immune from tyrannical rule?

Clearly, current events demonstrate otherwise. If this were a true democracy in the sense that many claim, we would have a government that represented our interests. We would not be in Iraq nor any other country.. We would be developing alternative resources. We would not be engaged in the importation of products at the expense of American industries. We would have eliminated the ability for American industries to outsource to other nations. We would not have political parties thinking for a moment about flat tax since this would obviously impact the poor to a greater degree than the rich. We would eliminate the ability for corporations to merge so freely in this country which of course has eliminated competition. We would have resources for food and energy so that this country was self-sufficient. I could go on and on… Our form of government is incapable of meeting these needs – this is why the only changes you see are those made by the President becauce he ignores law…

A democracy only works if you can hold your representatives responsible for their actions (which we can not ) we would be better of returning to the republic which was founded .But was a democracy because at the time it was impossible to get everyone to vote on laws ,because of communication .Today it would be feasible
