In a world where oil supply is short, the US does not need to invade Canada to secure its supply of oil. From an infrastructure perspective, Canada tied directly into a pipeline, terminal, refining grid that is right next door. Just from a cost basis Canada would prefer to sell oil to us without the US lifting a finger. Countries that are short oil would need to bring oil from Canada via complex logistics involving tankers. If the US wanted, their military influence would probably be exercised in that domain. Tankers can be slowed down, stopped, or even destroyed.

Where you get into a jump ball situation is where US interests and other foreign interests are competing for oil. What happens in Nigeria, Venezueal, the Mideast etc. Could I see a case where annexation or war is the outcome. Maybe…
